Summers just scream burgers to me… but it’s pretty uncommon to find good gluten free buns that don’t fall apart. That’s how I came up with this burger salad recipe!
For a long time, I used to make lettuce wraps, but they can get wilted and fall apart from the heat and grease of the burger. Plus, if you don’t have the right lettuce, a lettuce wrap is rather underwhelming (and not very filling).
But a burger salad is much easier to eat and leaves you feeling really satiated and full. It also works great if you have leftover burgers that you quickly warm up and can add to your salad.
Seriously… this is soooo good. You’ll be glad you made it!
Easy Burger Salad Recipe
Honestly, I started making this burger salad recipe because I was tired of the sad-looking food at BBQs.
I’d get glances of pity as my burger bun would crumble the moment I bit into it. And I don’t blame anyone… those buns drive me nuts and remind me why people often think gluten free food isn’t good.
But 9 out of 10 times, I’ll opt for the burger salad!
You can literally have so much fun creating fun burger flavors that really lend themselves well to the salad.
Some of my favorite burger flavor combos include…
- minced onion, garlic powder, sea salt, white pepper, minced parsley
- smoked paprika, garlic powder, sea salt
I enjoy it more and feel less stuffed. Plus, everyone constantly comments on how good and colorful my salad looks. They want to know how I came up with the idea and what to use as a dressing.
How to Dress Your Burger Salad
You certainly could use some sort of standard bottled dressing, but I make my own (it’s soooo easy).
If I’m going to enjoy a burger experience, then I want the dressing to taste like I was literally eating a burger on a bun.
That means using the condiments that you’d normally use to dress your burger plus some olive oil and red wine vinegar to thin them out.
As for a note about the burger salad dressing — you could certainly add mayo if you can tolerate it. I have never added any since I’m typically not home and don’t have any of my favorite vegan mayo available.

If you’d prefer a lighter meat, you can go with my super-moist turkey burgers! Definitely make the grilled sweet potatoes and then add some diced up to your salad. It’s a delish combo!
Top off your meal (and the BBQ) by bringing my world-famous Paleo Strawberry Mousse Pie! Seriously… everyone will be tripping over themselves to get a slice and ask for the recipe.
